Klefe Technical Institute to be centre of excellence

Togbe Koku Dzaga XI, Fiaga of Klefe, has said the traditional area was working to transform the community’s one-year-old technical institute into a centre of excellence in the next 10 years.

He said the decision was to whip up interest of the youth in technical and vocational skills and polish those skills to meet the demand for quality “Made in Ghana” products.

Togbe Koku Dzaga was addressing a grand durbar at Klefe-Dome to climax this year’s yam festival for the traditional area.

The event, on the theme, “Promoting Technical-Vocational Education through our Festival” coincided with the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the then Klefe Middle School now Junior High School.

He said the campaign for patronage of “Made in Ghana” products would be pointless until local craftsmen and skilled workers are positioned to produce to meet international standards.

The chief urged the young people in the community to take advantage of the technical/vocational school to acquire employable skills to enhance their standard of living.

“If cheap imports can find market in Ghana then there are opportunities for Ghanaians to also explore their own market by improving the quality of their products and finishing to make them competitive, so let us embrace the chance and create the future for our children,” he said.

Mrs Fafa Adinyira, the Ho Municipal Chief Executive, commended the traditional area for the initiative and pledged the support of the Assembly.

Over GHC 30,000 was raised to address some needs of the Institute, which is running courses including block laying, batik-tie and dye, dressmaking and carpentry.

Some individuals also announced scholarship packages for students of the Institute.
