Klefe citizens called to action to raise standard of education

Klefe, April 13, GNA - Chiefs and opinion leaders in the Klefe traditional area have set up an 11-member education reform committee to salvage the falling standard of education in the traditional area. The committee, under the Chairmanship of the Very Reverend Japhet Yao Ledo former Moderator of the General Assembly of the E.P. Church, would submit its findings to chiefs and opinion leaders in June. This was announced at a joint Easter Sunday and centenary thanksgiving service of the local branch of the E.P. Church in Klefe. Togbe Afele Dzaga X, Fiaga of Klefe Traditional area, urged parents, teachers and pupils and students to co-operate with the committee in its work. Togbe William Dzanku, Asafofia of Klefe, appealed to citizens to help provide a computer centre and a library for schools in the community.

He said those two facilities had become crucial in preparing pupils and students in the community to compete favourably with others. Togbe Afele Dzaga said time was when the high standard of education in Klefe was phenomenal, making students and pupils from the area to stand out academically wherever they were. He said that is not the case now as pupils and students from the area no longer command the respect even in the immediate environs. Togbe Afele Dzanku said evidence of the value of education in Klefe was the fact that it provided two moderators for the E.P. Church which blazed the trail of education in the traditional area. He said the challenge now fell on the present generation of the highly educated and highly placed personalities from Klefe to pay their due to the present and future generations of children in the area.
