Founder of the National Democratic Party (NDP), Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings has expressed unflinching support for her daughter, Zanetor Rawlings who’s the ruling NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Klottey Korle constituency in the upcoming Parliamentary election.
According to her, she has no problems with her daughter not contesting on the ticket of her (Nana Konadu)’s party, adding that she respects the decision taken by her daughter who’s matured enough to think for herself.
Managing Editor of the Al Hajj Newspaper, Alhaji Bature Iddrisu had previously stated that former first Lady had hatched a malicious plan against her own daughter, Dr Zanetor Rawlings to see her being defeated in the upcoming evil 2016 parliamentary elections.
According to him, Nana Konadu feels betrayed and disappointed that Dr Zanetor ditched her (Konadu)’s NDP and rather opted to run on the ticket of the NDC.
Dr Zanetor, the first daughter of the former first family who burst onto the political scene few months ago, showed her political strength when she beat the incumbent Member of Parliament for the area, Nii Armah Ashittey in the NDC’s recently held parliamentary primaries.
Speaking to Fiifi Banson on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.5 FM, Nana Konadu stated that Dr Zanetor has all her blessing as she strives to win the seat and represent the good people of Klottey Korle in Parliament come November elections.
“I support her in the sense that she’s a young person whom we’ve stayed at home with and discussed politics, and I must add she’s politically aware. Once she has made this decision I can only say kudos to her. She needn’t have stood on my party’s ticket; her father is an NDC founder and I also founded the NDP. The same people would have asked why she contested on NDP ticket if she did, and not on NDC ticket.”
“I come from a home of strong roots in both the CPP and UP. In our home we use principles in judging issues. That is how I was brought up and that is how I nurtured my children; so if my child decides to stand on the ticket of a party I’ll not stop that person but rather encourage him/her because diversity is very important in a family.”
