Kofi Annan brought peace and calm to a turbulent world – Haruna Iddrisu

Minority Leader of Parliament, Haruna Iddrisu has described Kofi Annan as a man of honour who brought calm to a turbulent world. A man the world will miss terribly for his immense contribution to the development of the people he is leaving behind.

Paying his last respect to the International statesman at the Accra International Conference Centre on Wednesday, Haruna Iddrisu praised his outstanding diplomatic acumen which enabled him to thaw many hostile relations throughout his career, especially as the UN Secretary General.

Kofi Annan died on August 18, 2018, in Switzerland at the age of 80, after a short illness, and will be buried at the Military Cemetery on Thursday, September 13, 2018. Mourner have been filing past his body in a closed casket

The Minority leader described Kofi Annan as a diplomat’s diplomat with extraordinary decency and civility who protected the world and promoted human dignity through the UN system, adding the world will fondly miss and remember Kofi Annan for the introduction of the Millennium Development Goals (SDG’s)

Mr Iddrisu praised his contribution to the deepening of democracy in Africa, especially that of Ghana, which is currently a shining example to Africa, following many successful elections and power transitions.

“Kofi Annan made a significant contribution to the conduct of free and fair elections across the globe with UN observer teams, particularly in Africa,” he added.



A state funeral will be held for Kofi Annan on Thursday, 13th September 2018 at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).
