Former Minister for Petroleum and Member of Parliament (MP) for Ellembelle Constituency of the Western Region, Hon. Emmanuel Armah Kofi-Buah, has called on supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to support the former President John Mahama for another victory of the party in 2020.
The NDC is yet to open nominations for persons who want to lead the party in 2020 general elections but many have already declared openly, their support for the former President John Mahama including all ten Regional Chairmen of the party, Kofi Adams and some constituency executives.
National Organizer of the party, Kofi Adams, on Thursday made it clear that the NDC does not recognize all those aspiring stalwarts and insisted that the party only recognizes the former president, who is planning a comeback once again to contest the next presidential election after being humiliated as an incumbent in 2016.
Currently, about five top notches – former Trade and Industry Minister Ekwow Spio-Garbrah; former University of Professional Studies Accra Rector, Joshua Alabi; Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin; former National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) Chief Executive, Sylvester Mensah and failed parliamentary aspirant, Stephen Atibuga – are aspiring to lead the NDC for Election 2020.
Speaking at the NDC Unity Walk at Tarkwa in the Western Region on November 25, 2017, the Member of Parliament for Ellembelle said Ghanaians are anxiously waiting for former President John Mahama to come back in 2020 as President of Ghana to save them from the current hardships Ghanaians are experiencing under the Akufo-Addo-led government.
This is the fourth in a series of walks after similar events were held in Accra, Tamale and Cape Coast.
Leading thousands of party faithful in a unity walk aimed at re-energizing the grassroots of the party as part of on-going efforts towards rebuilding the party as recommended by the Professor Kwesi Botchwey report, the former President other NDC bigwigs marched through some principal streets in the Tarkwa township; singing, dancing and drumming.
Armah Buah expressed unflinching support for the Ex-President and urged all party supporters to endorse him as flagbearer for the 2020 elections.
"We are ready for JM,……the victory of JM is coming".
According to him, the NPP government during the 2016 electioneering period made several promises, including the reduction of electricity tariffs and petrol prices.
"When we were leaving power in 2020, the price of petrol was sold at GHC 16 but today it has been quadrupled and we can't buy it so we need to bring JM in 2020, he said.
Touching on the 2018 budget, Mr. Buah said that the NPP came to power through deceit and propaganda and hence has to be kicked out in 2020 to make room for the NDC.
"We need to go to the branches and mobilise support and also rebuild the party again for victory 2020", he emphasized.
