Firebrand politician, Kofi Wayo, has criticized Prof Evans Atta-Mills, former Vice-President and Dr Kwesi Botchwey, former Finance Minister for their intensions to run, over the Presidency for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2004 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections.
He said the decision of the two personalities is insults to the intelligence of Ghanaians. Mr Kofi Wayo, also known as ‘Nima Boy’ said he cannot fathom why as a former vice-President for four years, Prof Mills looked on when human rights of individuals were violated. He said “As a former Vice-President, Atta Mills also helped to create a lot of rot in the country and now, he says he wants to be President”. Good
Speaking in an interview with Paul Adom Okyere on Metro TV Programme, Good Evening, Ghana, Mr Wayo said Prof Mills cannot be a good leader, since he contributed to the bad state of the economy for four years.
He fumed “This man was Vice-President for four years for this country and could not change the rot in the country and now he wants to be the President”. Kofi Wayo cited the case of Selassie Djentu who was arrested and sent to the Castle at Osu in Accra where his hair was shaved with a broken bottle, after he was beaten well. He stressed “Prof Mills was in a unique position to stop those inhuman treatments and establish himself as a married person, but he failed to do that”.
Turning the heat on Dr Kwesi Botchwey, Wayo said it would be unfortunate if Ghanaians and the NDC allowed Dr Botchwey to be President of Ghana. He said as the longest serving Finance Minister of this country, Dr Botchwey helped to run the economy down completely and so it would be an insult to Ghanaians to allow him to be President of Ghana. He said as the longest serving Finance Minister of this country, Dr Botchwey helped to run the economy down completely and so it would be an insult to Ghanaians to allow him to be President. Commenting on the state of the economy, Mr Wayo said Ministers in the NPP Government only prefer the so-called foreign investors to their own country men who may want to do genuine business, because of the percentage they may get from foreign investors.
Mr Wayo, who is a leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and a number one critic of his own party, said despite the problems the country is going through, Ministers in President Kufour’s Administration are still traveling outside the country when the country’s problems are domestic ones that must be solved here without intervention by any country. He said most of the Ministers prefer to stay outside Ghana than to stay in the country and solve problems that have engulfed their respective ministries.
On the performance of the Ministers, he said most of them have performed badly. He mentioned Professor Ameyaw Akumfi as the worst Minister who should not be allowed to continue working as Minister. He said as a former Director General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), he created a lot of mess and he (Wayo) does not understand why he must be allowed to continue to be a Minister. He called on President Kufour to fire any Minister who fails to perform as is expected of him.
