The Flamboyant Charles Wayo, alias "Chuk," a human rights activist, may appear in court soon, to testify as a prosecution witness in a case in which a female employee of the Royal Casino, located in the Golden Tulip Hotel, was allegedly assaulted by the Managing Director of the Casino, Mr. Stephan Rodier.
The female employee, Ms. Theresa Kwadedzi, who appeared as a star witness at the community tribunal which is trying the case, chaired by Mrs. J. A. Bartel, disclosed that Wayo was informed about the assault case at that early dawn. The accused, Rodier, who pleaded not guilty to the charge of assault has been granted ?5 million bail.
In a cross- examination by counsel for the accused, the complainant told the court that after she was assaulted by her boss, she came to the Casino and reported the case to Mr. Kofi Wayo, who happened to be at the Casino. The complainant dropped this hint when leading counsel for the accused, Mr. S. K Amoah, demanded to know from her whether she had reported the case to any body at the Casino.
Chronicle's police source had intimated that due to this revelation in the course of the cross- examination, the police will have to get a statement from Wayo so that he can come to the court to testify as one of the prosecution witnesses. Ms. Kwadedzi giving evidence to the court denied a suggestion from the accused counsel that Rodier slightly lifted the bench to wake her up because he did not want to offend her.
However, the complainant said that the accused lifted the bench that she was lying on very high and she fell hard on the ground . She further denied an assertion by counsel for the accused who had suggested that Rodier did not kick her abdomen. She told the court that she was kicked by her boss in the abdomen while she was already on the ground and she began to bleed .
She said after the incident, she reported the case to Wayo and went to the police station where she was given a medical form to go to hospital. The accused, who was led in evidence by Chief Inspector Mrs. Gladys Adjei, showed a medical report to the complainant which she identified as a police hospital report that was given to her when she was treated at the hospital and detained for some time.
Counsel told complainant that on that day of the incident, she failed to go back to her duty and that she just put up the story to tarnish the image of the Casino but the complainant answered in the negative . Ms. Kwadedzi said that she did not know why her boss treated her like that on that fateful day.
She said she was resting on the bench when her boss came and lifted the bench high for her to fall down and he later gave her some kicks in the abdomen. The case has been adjourned to March 29, this year.
