Chairman of the Kokompe union Nicholas Kofi Agbeyome has expressed regret over the hooting at President John Mahama by traders and says they are more than ready to welcome him to come back.

Hundreds of traders and residents on Tuesday, October 11 shocked President John Dramani Mahama at Kokompe, a suburb in the Greater Accra Region, by waving the change sign after the president stormed the area to campaign.

The President had to defiantly wear a difficult smile, surrounded by security men, as he waved his way through the awkward crowd.

Speaking to 3news.com during a press conference organised exactly a week after the incident, Mr. Agbeyome dissociated the union from the incident and said they are more than ready to welcome President Mahama back to Kokompe.

“We shall be very happy if the President will turn back to us again because we are waiting for him and we have not given up”.

He described Kokompe as a market area which is open to all, stating that not everyone there owns a stall. “There are a lot of people who come here but do not own shops so anybody at all can just decide to do what they want around the area.

“In fact, we have a letter which is ready here inviting him to come back here and if he even wishes to grant us audience wherever he is, we will go to him”.

According to the chairman, the union is very unhappy about what happened to the first citizen of the land and says they are eve ready to make amends.
