Komenda Sugar Factory to Be Revived

Plans are far advanced to rehabilitate the Komenda Sugar Factory to produce sugar, canned pineapple, oranges and tomatoes, Mr Isaac Edumadze, Central Regional Minister said on Monday.

He has, therefore, charged farmers to go into the production of these crops to feed it.

Mr Edumadze was speaking at a cocktail party the Regional Co-ordinating Council (RCC) held for regional heads of decentralised government departments and agencies to mark the ninth anniversary of the Fourth Republic and one-year of "Positive Change" at Cape Coast.

He said a fish industry complex and a harbour would soon be established at Elmina to process fish, which normally goes waste during bumper catches due to lack of storage facilities.

The Regional Minister said the RCC would intensify its drive to attract investors to the region. Much emphasis would be placed on tourism and agriculture, particularly agro-processing to create jobs and wealth to raise the people's standard of living.

He called for unity among workers irrespective of their political or religious affiliations to help move the country forward.

Nana Kodwo Condua VI Omanhene of Edina Traditional Area, called for support and co-operation for the government to enable it to implement its policies to enhance the development of the nation.
