Like the prophecy of a US prophet who predicted that the end of the world would come on May 20, this year, passed unfulfilled, so has the Ashaiman-based self-acclaimed prophet, Segbene Yehodzi’s prediction of a landslide victory for Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings at the NDC congress held over the weekend, turned false, with Mrs. Rawlings being embarrassed with a humiliating defeat.
In the case of the fake Ghanaian prophet who hails from the Volta Region, there is more to it than just a mere prophecy; he set a condition to be killed by firing squad or commit suicide if his divine predictions failed to manifest. Segbene even composed a song for Nana Konadu, which was released a day before the congress; the story about his prophecy came in an exclusive interview with The Herald, which was published in its edition last Friday.
He told The Herald that Nana Konadu’s victory over Mills had been revealed to him by God.
When The Herald last checked early Sunday, Segbene was still alive, and kicking. The 28-year-old who publishes “The Segbene and Ghanaian Decree Newspapers,’’ had not swallowed a poison or shot himself as promised.
When this paper called him on his 0200942225 cell phone, Prophet Segbene said that all has not been well with his household since the defeat of the former First Lady; he said he has received countless calls requesting him to surrender himself, with some people even threatening to come for him. His other phone number is 0244-618411.
But in the eyes of Segbene, Mrs. Rawlings actually won the election with a wide margin contrary to what the EC declared to Ghanaians last Saturday, with ex-President Jerry John Rawlings holding the arm of President John Evans Mills to pronounce him winner of the election.
Segbene, who claims to be a father of two, clearly appears to be seeing images and hearing voices from a different realm far from reality. He insisted that Nana Konadu won the election in the spiritual realm, and therefore, there was no point to take away his life.
“The NDC people are smart; they have dribbled all Ghanaians, but the fact is that Konadu is the winner”, he hallucinated.
The self-proclaimed prophet, prior to the much-anticipated congress, had said that he was prepared to face the firing squad if Mills won the election between him and Nana Konadu, to lead the NDC for the 2012 presidential elections.
In fact, he also chose suicide as one of his means of death should the prophecy fail, because God had revealed to him that he would use Mrs. Rawlings to redeem the people of Ghana from sufferings.
But as it turned out, the NDC national delegates voted massively for President Mills in a lopsided contest for the flagbearership of the ruling party, with the President polling a massive 2,771 votes as against an embarrassing 90 votes by the former First Lady.
President Mills’ votes represent 96.7% of the total votes cast, whilst Nana Konadu’s votes represent a total of 3.14%.
Only five of the total of 2866 votes was rejected. By this, Prof. Mills will lead the NDC in the 2012 General Elections.
