Retail supermarket, Melcom, has donated 20 thousand cartons of bar soaps to five hospitals in Accra.
The gesture, according to the group, is to complement the government’s effort in fighting against the novel deadly coronavirus.
Director of Communication, Godwin Avenorgbo said the donation is a continuation of contributions the group has made to the COVID-19 fund and the Office of the First Lady.
“The motivation is we are in business, so a healthy nation is what we need to trade, Ghanaians are our principal clients, customers so we need them to be healthy,” he said.
The beneficiaries, Police Hospital, 37 Military Hospital, Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Tema General Hospital and the Cardiothoracic Center of Korle Bu each got 112 cartons of soap.
Mr. Avenorgbo said, personal hygiene, institutional cleanliness is important to the fight against the global pandemic.
“We have reached the stage where we need to directly reach out to the various hospitals and what they think they need now is soap” he noted.
He said the group is prepared to release more soaps.
“By the kind courtesy of our group chairman, Bhagwan Khubchandani, when you finish using these within 8 weeks, he will approve that we give you more, so don’t go and hoard it” he stressed.
On their part, the representatives from the various hospital showed gratitude and asked other institutions to do same.
