Accra, Sept. 22, GNA - The staff of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital on Thursday filed past the bodies of the three Urologists Doctors, who died in a motor accident, to show their last respects at the Hospital's private funeral parlour.
The Doctors, Professor John M. K. Quartey, 82; Dr Issac Bensti, 64 and Dr Benjamin Osei Wiafe, 34, died in a motor accident on the Bonsu-Apedwa section of the Acra-Kumasi Highway while returning from a monthly outreach programme in the Brong Ahafo Region The three were part of a medical team that took part in the outreach programme at the Sunyani Government Hospital.
Mr Mustafa Salifu, Public Relations Officer, of the Hospital, told the Ghana News Agency in an interview that the bodies would be laid in state at the forecourt of the State House in Accra on Friday, September 23, followed by a burial service and burial at the Osu Cemetery the same day.
The Administrative and Surgical Blocks of the Hospital were decorated with black and red cloths to signify the state of mourning. The staffs were seen wearing red and black ribbons, which according to Mr Salifu had been a regular feature since the announcement of the death of their colleagues.
A urology fund has been set up for the establishment of a Urology Centre to train more urologists to fill in the big gap that had been created by the death and also in memory of the three doctors. The Management of the Hospital said on Wednesday there would not be the normal outpatient clinics for patients on Friday because of the funereal, a statement from the Hospital signed by Mr Mustafa said. It said a skeletal staff would be on stand-by to attend to emergencies and added that patients, who had a doctor's appointment, would be re-scheduled. 22 Sept. 05
