Authorities at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital have suspended admissions to the Surgical/Medical Emergency Unit of the hospital.
The two-day suspension, which came into effect on Monday, was to enable authorities to decongest the unit before new cases were admitted.
According to the Public Relations Officer of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Mustapha Salifu, the suspension has become necessary due to the recent influx of patients to the unit.
He said the influx had led to congestion in the unit and also affected the quality of health care delivery to patients.
Mr. Salifu has therefore urged people who may require emergency medical attention to report to other hospitals and clinics within the Accra metropolis.
The unit expects to start admitting new cases on Wednesday.
