Kotokorli community underscores need for peaceful co-existence

Kumasi, Sept 12, GNA - The Council of Elders of the Kotokorli community in Ashanti Region, at the week-end elected Alhaji Ahmed Yahaya Toure, Director of Toure Ventures, as Head of the Community at a colourful ceremony in Kumasi.

He replaces the late Wuro Alhaji Abubakar Ibrahim Sergeant who died in July, 2011.

Alhaji Toure, 51, was confirmed as the new Head after a marathon meeting by the Council and would officially be installed as the Wuro" (Chief)of the community on September 17.

Alhaji Usman Alhassan Allahu-Akbar, Chairman of the Council, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the installation would be done soon after the final funeral rites of the late Wuro Sergeant in accordance with the tradition and custom of the Kotokorli people.

He commended members of the community for their patience and restraint while the Council was searching for a replacement for the departed Head.

Alhaji Usman stressed the need for Kotokorlis to live peacefully with other ethnic groups since there could not be any meaningful development in a chaotic society.

Wuro Yerema Jibril Adam, Head of the Kotokorli community at Ejisu, and a member of the Council, urged the new Head to endeavour to mobilize resources towards the sustainable development of the community.

He appealed to Kotokorlis to support the new Head for the benefit of the community.
