Accra,(Greater Accra Region) 14 Oct. Citizens of Kpedze and its surrounding towns resident in the Accra/Tema metropolis have been asked to contribute voluntarily towards the purchase of 176 low tension electric poles for the area to be connected to the national grid. Each non-resident is to pay 10,000 cedis and above for the purchase of the poles estimated at 200,000 cedis each. Captain Dick Gbesemete, a businessman, made the call when he presided over a harvest organised in Accra yesterday by the Accra/Tema branch of the Kpedze Development Association. The function coincided with a get-together, organised by Mr. Francis Agbotse, member of parliament for the area and some citizens. Captain Gbesemete said Kpedze and the four other towns, all in Ho West, need electricity to open them up for commercial and industrial ventures to provide employment for the youth. Mr. Agbotse said he would not rest on his oars until the 176 poles have been purchased. A total of 1.5 million cedis was collected at the harvest.
