Accra, June 13, GNA - President John Agyekum Kufuor on Wednesday assured the chiefs and people of the Krachi Traditional Area that the Government would not deny them of their fair share of development. It would see through the completion of development projects, including the upgrading of schools and roads started in the area. Additionally, the Government was determined to ensure safety on the Volta Lake.
President Kufuor gave the assurance when a delegation of Chiefs in the area led by the Omanhene, Nana Mprah Besemuna, paid a courtesy call on him at the Castle, Osu.
They were there to convey to the President, their gratefulness for splitting the traditional area into two administrative districts, Krachi East and West, a move they said was significantly helping to speed up their progress.
Responding to a request by the chiefs for the implementation of phase two of the Krachi town roads improvement project, President Kufuor directed the Volta Regional Minister, Mr. Kofi Dzamesi, to meet with the Department of Urban Roads to get this done.
Nana Besemuna also appealed to the Government to provide a pontoon at Krachi to facilitate easy crossing of the Volta Lake from the area to Atebubu, a distance of about 50 kilometres.
He said the only pontoon at Dambai, which has been ferrying the people across the lake, has been running on a single engine and that in the event of a breakdown, the economic activities of the people would come to a standstill.
To avoid this, it was important that an additional engine was provided.
The Omanhene pleaded for the extension of the Nkonya-Worawora road project to cover Krachi. 13 June 2007
