Krachi varsity students offer voluntary teaching in rural areas

Koforidua, June 28, GNA - Members of the Krachi District Students Union in the five public universities have embarked on voluntary teaching exercise in senior secondary schools in the district, during their semester vacation periods.

Announcing this at Koforidua on Monday, Mr Emmanuel Kofi Boateng, the Co-ordinator of the exercise, said during the monthly-long voluntary teaching, the students would teach in schools at Kete-Krachi, Dambai and Asukawkaw.

He explained that the decision to embark on the exercise had become necessary in view of the few students from the area gaining admission into tertiary institutions in recent years, due mainly to falling education standards and parental neglect.

Mr Boateng said it was their belief that, besides the teaching, the exercise would go a long way to help motivate the students to study hard, while parents would also spend more on their wards to encourage them to study.

He appealed to well-to-do Krachi citizens and benevolent societies outside the area, to donate financial assistance to be used to defray travelling expenses of the students during the exercise.
