Kufuor Family Deny Chronicle Story

The family of the President John Agyekum Kufuor and Defense Minister, Dr. Kwame Addo Kufuor, has denied ever impressing upon Addo Kufuor to rescind his ambition to succeed his brother.

According to them, the family has not refused him of support.

Reacting to today’s edition of the Ghanaian Chronicle, the Apedwahene Oheneba Kwame Kyeretwie noted that as Representatives of traditional institution they are not suppose be in politics. He stated that at no point has the family called on the defence minister to impress upon him to rescind his decision to contest.

The Chronicle reported today that Most of the Minister’s relatives, including the President, have been grumbling over Dr. Addo Kufuor’s strenuous efforts to vie for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearership position because of the danger it would to for the ruling party in the national elections.

Commenting on the same issue Mr. George Kufuor the spokesperson of the family rejected the publication and threatened to sue the newspaper for publishing unsubstantiated claims.

He asked members of the party to judge Addo Kufuor by his competencies exhibited in various fields, abilities and track record, a criteria, he said, applies to all other candidates and nothing else.

George Kufuor was of the view that the position is an electoral one and not a hereditary one adding that the delegates would choose the one they consider best.
