Accra, July 14, GNA- President John Agyekum Kufuor last week inspected the refurbished Ghana's High Commission building and interacted with staff while he was on his way home after attending the G8 Summit in Japan.
A release from the Ghana High Commission received in Accra on Monday said President Kufuor admonished the staff to appreciate the sacrifices of the hardworking people of Ghana, particularly farmers, through whose toil and labour the Government was able to mobilize the resources to refurbish the building.
"You should count yourselves very privileged indeed to be working in this very conducive environment," he said.
He advised the staff to maintain high standard of maintenance culture so that the Government would not be called upon to commit scarce resources for future rehabilitation.
"Those who are found wanting should not be tolerated at the Mission," President Kufuor said.
President Kufuor was full of praise for Nana Nicholas Kwabeng, 2007 National Best Cocoa Farmer, who paid a courtesy call on the High Commissioner and asked the staff to emulate the hard work, humility and selflessness of patriots like Nana Kwabeng.
President Kufuor said through the contributions of Nana Kwabeng and other hardworking cocoa farmers, Ghana had raised production from a mere 300,000 tonnes eight years ago to 700,000 tonnes during the 2007 cocoa season.
Mr Annan Cato, High Commissioner, on behalf of the staff, assured the President and the people of Ghana that they were aware of the sacrifices being made by the people and were therefore resolved to maintain the integrity and the high level of the refurbishment. Mr Cato and Mr Liam Shapita, Managing Director of Amandi Limited, the contractor, conducted the president round to inspect the work done.
