Kufuor names new board members for SIC, NIC

President John Agyekum Kufuor on Tuesday named members of the board of directors of the National Insurance Commission (NIC) and the State Insurance Company (SIC).

The government has also appointed Mr Peter Osei Duah, an insurance expert as the new Managing Director of SIC.

A statement issued by Ms Elizabeth Ohene, Government Spokesperson, said Lieutenant General Henry Smith, former Army Commander, heads the 11-member NIC board.

Other members are Ms Josephine Amoah, Insurance Consultant/Commissioner, Mr M.A. Quist-Therson, representative of the Ministry of Finance, Mr Wilson, representative of the Ghana Insurers Association, Mr E. Essilfie Mensah, representative of the Insurance Institute, Mr Sam Awotwi, representative of the Ghana Police Service and Mr Charles Ankomah, representative of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union.

The rest are Mrs Diana Ayettey, representative of the National Council on Women and Development, Dr Daniel Tapang, a medical doctor, Mr W. F. Duncan and Colonel Armah Okai, government nominees.

The nine-member SIC board is chaired by Professor I.M. Ofori, a planning and valuation consultant.

The others are Mr Peter Osei Duah, Managing Director of SIC, Mr S.K. Apea, a banker and economist, Ms Margaret Ekua Prah, a business re-engineering consultant, Dr Karikari Brobbey, a medical consultant and Mr Kwame Owusu of the Internal Revenue Service.

The rest are Dr Kwaku Osafo, an engineer and financial analyst, the Deputy Managing Director (technical) and Deputy Managing Director (finance and administration) both of SIC.
