Kufuor's Canada trip was "cancelled"

Accra, Sept. 22, GHP - According to a government source, President John Agyekum Kufuor's trip to Ottawa, Canada was "cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances"?.

The source refused to be identified, by name, because the information had not yet been formally announced

An official at the Ghana High Commission in Ottawa, who also refused to be named, confirmed that the trip was cancelled. The official gave no reason for the cancellation.

On September 14, Kufuor left for Ottawa, Canada, for an official visit. According to a press release from the president's office, he was to engage in bilateral talks with Canadian Prime Minister, Mr. Stephen Harper and the Governor-General, Ms Michaelle Jean. The president was also suppose to meet with officials of ALCAN, the aluminium company, which had proposed to build a bauxite refinery in Ghana.

All three engagements did not take place.

Kufuor arrived in New York, United States on Saturday - a week after leaving Ghana - to participate in the 62nd General Assembly of the United Nations.

No official explanation has been given for the whereabouts of the president from 14-21 of September.
