President John Agyekum Kufuor would attend the 57th session of the United Nations General Assembly scheduled for the UN Headquarters, New York, on 12th September 2002.
A statement issued in Accra yesterday and signed by the Special Assistant to the Minister of Information and Presidential Affairs, Mr. Ferdiand Ayim said President Kufuor is scheduled to deliver his address on 13th September 2002 at the session which is expected to review the current international situation and chart a new course for the future.
Among the key issues on the agenda according to the statement would be international terrorism, disarmament, proliferation of arms, the arab-israeli issue, conflict, peace keeping operations, Security Council reforms and development related issues such as market access, the HIV/AIDS pandemic, poverty reduction, the issue of women and children as well as millennium development goals, among others.
The statement said President Kufuor would use the opportunity to confer with his colleague Heads of State and Government and share with them Ghana's experience in her efforts at consolidating democracy, strengthening the rule of law and attracting foreign direct investment to improve the standard of living of the average Ghanaian.
President Kufuor would also share ideas on the NEPAD initiative as well as the formation of the African Union and how they impact the development agenda of the African continent.
The session to be addressed by over fifty Heads of State and Governments would be President Kufuor's maiden participation since he assumed office.
