Kufuor warns NPP NEC

Former President John Agyekum Kofi Diawuo Kufuor has cautioned members of the National Executive Council (N.E.C.) of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) not to impose anyone; from the polling station level to flagbearership slot.

At a meeting with some selected members of the party hierarchy at an Airport Residential area venue, ex-President Kufuor warned that “if we try to impose anyone to be able to influence the election of a flagbearer, next year, we will risk encountering a high level of apathy among our hard core supporters in the 2016 elections.

This is what we did in the flagbearership election in 2007 which saw us recording high level of apathy in the first round of voting in 2008”.

Mr. Kufuor’s warning comes against the backdrop of upsurge of some elected executives allegedly clamouring for support for Nana Akufo Addo to be retained.

A source close to the former President told The Informer “how can there be a clamour within 48hours of Nana Addo’s public declaration that he is going to take a rest to decide his political future.

As for F.F. Anto he knows he is going to lose his position as the Regional Chairman of the party in Ashanti because under his chairmanship Nana Addo performed poorly in the 2008 and 2012 election, that is why he has decided to embark on this crusade”.

“We will not sit down and allow people like F.F. Anto and his group to impose Nana Addo on the party, when it is crystal clear that Ghanaians don’t want him as their leader. Like Kwesi Amakye has indicated; Nana Addo has expired. So why not allow him to rest”, the source queried.
