‘Kufuor was right, corruption is as old as Adam and Eve’

Former President John Kufuor’s office has strongly defended his anti-corruption credentials and reiterated his assertions that corruption is as old as Adam and Eve.

His Spokesperson, Frank Agyekum, has also described as “unfair”, Deputy Interior Minister, James Agalga’s claim that Kufuor condoned corruption during his two terms in office.

Agalga told Radio XYZ’s news analysis programme ‘The Analyst’ on Saturday that unlike President John Mahama, who is confronting the canker in his government, Kufuor condoned it.

He pointed to ongoing investigations regarding the rot at the Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Development Agency (GYEEDA), to advance his argument.

Agalga juxtaposed Mahama’s actions against that of Kufuor, who once said corruption was as old as Adam and Eve.

However, Frank Agyekum told XYZ Breakfast Show Host Moro Awudu on Monday that Mr Agalga’s analysis lacks logic.

Agyekum recalled that Kufuor is the only president in the history of Ghana to have submitted himself to scrutiny and investigation by the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice.

He wondered how Kufuor could have investigated “rumours” when nothing of substance was presented to back those rumours.

Agyekum also defended Kufuor’s assertion that corruption is as old as Adam and Eve.

“Really that is the truth; corruption is as old as Adam and Eve and everybody knows it. Adam was corrupted by Eve and Eve was corrupted by the serpent. And when President Kufuor made that remark, he made that remark to say that in public office such as the Presidency or even as deputy minister, you face a lot of temptations”.
