Kumasi Backs Otumfuo

The people of Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional Capital and the official seat of the Asantehene, have pledge their unflinching support for their King and Overlord of Asanteman, Otumfuo Osei Tutu ll.

The Asantehene, on Thursday, lost valuable jewels belonging to the Asante Kingdom through theft, which occurred in a hotel where the traditional leader was lodging whilst on official event at Oslo, Norway.

The people of Kumasi initially received the news of the King’s unpleasant case with shock. Most people of the city that did not believe the story called into radio programmes to verify the authenticity of the matter.

But when it was confirmed that indeed, the King had lost some precious jewels to some unknown hoodlums, the people of Kumasi suddenly changed their solemn moods to throw support behind their king.

Most of the people the paper spoke to at Adum, the central business area of the Garden City, said though the news of the theft was unfortunate, it could not affect their strong love for their traditional leader.

They insisted that Otumfuo Osei Tutu ll, since his ascension to the Golden Stool in 1999, has played significant roles thereby helping to develop the Asanteman and Ghana at large.

The people of Kumasi noted that their king, whom they usually referred to as “King Solomon,” has proven beyond every reasonable doubt that he was effective and credible to lead the people of Asante Kingdom.

They therefore said that the loss of the precious jewel, even if the King failed to retrieve them, would not cost Otumfuo Osei Tutu ll his throne and position as the leader of the largest ethnic group in the country.

According to the people, including some of the Chiefs who spoke on the condition of anonymity, their love and support for the occupant of the Golden Stool was unwavering, irrespective of whatever happened.
