Kumasi Mayhem: North Suntreso C'ttee Set

The Ashanti Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has appointed a five member committee to investigate the circumstances that led to the extensive destruction of properties and the inflicting of knife wounds on residents at North Suntreso, a suburb of Kumasi by a group of aggrieved military men.

The members of the ?North Suntreso Mayhem Committee include His Lordship Justice Abraham, a Kumasi High Court Judge, Dr. A.B.K Annan, President of the Ashanti Regional Branch of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA); Major Amoah Boachie, representing the Military, Chief Superintendent Boakye Asiamah and Professor Mrs. Ernestina Addi, a lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

The Setting up of the Committee followed an emergency meeting which was necessitated by last Tuesday?s incident at North Suntreso by some soldiers who stormed the neigbourhood and subjected residents to brutalities whilst vandalizing properties and smashing the windscreens of several vehicles.

The Chairman of REGSEC, Hon. S.K Boafo who made this known in an interview with HelloFM a sister station of PeaceFM based in Kumasi also revealed that the 5 member committee woud be formally inaugurated tomorrow. The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the REGSEC gave the assurance that with the setting up of the Committee, the perpetrators of the North Suntreso Mayhem would be brought to book and justice subsequently served.
