Kuntanase raises 12.5 million cedis for school project

Kuntanase (Ash), April 14, GNA- The chiefs and people of Kuntanase in the Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma District of Ashanti on Easter Sunday collected 12.5 million cedis through a fund-raising for the construction of a secondary/technical school in the town.

The project, which is estimated to cost about one billion cedis, would be funded through levies on the people and assistance from the government.

Mr Bernard Kwaku Antwi, the unit committee chairman for Kuntanase, said to raise enough funds for the project, resident citizens who regularly took part in communal labour were paying 10,000 cedis per male and 5,000 cedis a female while non-resident citizens were paying 30,000 cedis a man and 20,000 cedis a woman.

Mr Agyenim Boateng, Assemblyman for Kuntanase-Adum, called on the people to contribute towards the development of the town, pointing out that the completion of the Secondary/Technical School would help to equip the youth with vocational skills to make them economically independent.

Barima Ogyeabour Adu-Gyamfi Poku III, Kuntanasehene, urged his people to unite and plan towards the development of the town. He cautioned his sub-chiefs to be careful about how they handled land matters so as to prevent litigation which he said retarded development.

In an address read for him, Mr Bright Addai-Mununkum, the District Chief Executive, told the people that work on the 86 million cedis post office for the town was nearing completion and hoped it would be completed on schedule.

He said the assembly would this year build a modern mortuary for the Kuntanase hospital and pledged to support the secondary/technical school project.
