Suspended 2nd Vice Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammy Crabbe, has disclosed that, among the reasons Mr Kwabena Agyepong, was suspended as General Secretary of the NPP was his suggestion that the ‘Invincible Forces’ should be well structured.
The Invincible Forces is the private security arm of the NPP.
The Invincible Forces shortly after the NPP had won the 2016 election made headlines for all the wrong reasons. They invaded state institutions to lock up the places and took over, seized toll booths and kicked against some appointments of the president in a rowdy manner.
Speaking on the Executive Breakfast Show (EBS) on Class91.3FM with Moro Awudu, Mr Crabbe said: “[They said] Kwabena Agyepong’s wrong was that he was trying to destroy Invincible Forces. But all that Kwbena Agyapong wanted was to professionalise them. He wanted to put structures in place for the Invisible Forces.
“All [political] parties have security, but then, it’s important that you have an administrative set up that commands, so that, they will respond to them. It shouldn’t be a private army; it shouldn’t be somebody’s army because when you do that, it becomes difficult for you to control them.”
According to him, the NPP as a party has no control over the Invincible and Delta Forces. He said they have become a private security for some members of the party but refused to mention names.
In his opinion “If people had supported or listened to Kwabena Agyapong or asked why, today, we wouldn’t have the Invisible Forces getting into court chasing judges, daring people, walking into national security offices and beating up the person there.”
The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the NPP has suspended Mr Agyepong indefinitely, alongside Mr Crabbe and then-Chairman Paul Afoko, for, among other things, making utterances that were injurious to the chances of Nana Akufo-Addo in the 2016 election.
