Kwabre MP declares intention to seek re-election

Swedru (Ash), Feb 2, GNA - Nana Asante-Frimpong, MP for Kwabre, has declared his intention to seek re-election for another term in 2004 polls.

He said unlike the President whose tenure of office is limited to two terms, an MP had no such constitutional restriction and would continue to serve so long as he enjoyed the support, confidence and goodwill of his constituents.

Nana Asante-Frimpong was addressing a meeting of the Chiefs and people of Swedru in the Kwabre District to discuss development. He expressed concern about the apathy of well-placed and resourceful citizens of the area towards the socio-economic development of their communities.

The MP said, "it is regrettable that in spite of the many successful businessmen, lawyers, doctors, architects, planners and host of other professionals who come from Kwabre, our area is still lagging behind in development".

Nana Asante-Frimpong called for a change of attitude saying, "let us learn to die a little for the progress of our communities". Nana Poku Berkoe, Regent of Swedru, said the community was grateful to the MP for his tremendous role in getting electricity extended to the town.

He also commended Nana Asante-Frimpong for his efforts in getting the entire wired and the installation of a transformer, saying, "we are only waiting to be switched on".
