Kwadaso Town Council commends govt.

Kwadaso (Ash), April. 19, GNA - The chiefs, opinion leaders, assembly members and the Kwadaso town council have expressed their appreciation to President J.A Kufuor and the government for creating a new constituency for Kwadaso.

They said the creation of the constituency, which has about 17 towns and villages, was in the right direction.

Addressing a press conference on the issue and a number of other issues affecting the area at Kwadaso on Sunday, Mr Samuel Osei Bonsu, Chairman of the Kwadaso town council, said the selection of Kwadaso as the centre of the newly created constituency must go with the provision of certain basic facilities.

He therefore, appealed to the President to prevail upon the Ministry of Roads and Transport and the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) to rehabilitate roads at Kwadaso and Asuoyeboah, which had been in deplorable state for far too long.

The Town Council Chairman regretted that, despite the act that Kwadaso, Asuoyeboah and other communities in the new constituency had been bastions of the UP tradition, these were the least developed areas within the Kumasi Metropolitian Assembly.

Mr Osei Bonsu, who is also the assemblyman for Nsiah Asare said in-spite of numerous appeals and assurances by the Bantama Sub-Metro under which the area fell and the Department of Urban Roads that everything concerning the rehabilitation of roads in the area particularly Kwadaso and Asuoyeboah had been sent to the KMA, nothing was being done.

He said even those that were started at Asuoyeboah township and those from Seloam hospital area to join the SSNIT flats at Asuoyeboah and the Fourth Battalion of Infantry road have been abandoned. Mr Osei Bonsu pointed out that there was such a heavy traffic on the Abuakwa-Kwadaso-Sofoline and the Komfo Anokye Teaching (KATH) road that if the road from Kwadaso through the Estates to link the Western by-pass was properly developed, it would ease the traffic congestion on the main road.

The Town Council Chairman asked landlords in the area to convert their pan latrines into water closets by the last quarter of the year as directed by the KMA.

Mr Osei Bonsu on behalf of the constituency appealed to the Ministry of the Interior and the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to re-open the Kwadaso police station which was removed from the town due to accommodation problem a few years ago.

He pledged the preparedness of the chiefs and people of Kwadaso to offer land and labour for the construction of a police station to augment the Sofoline police station, which catered for a vast area. Mr Philip Brobbey, assemblyman for Asuoyeboah supported the call for the rehabilitation of the roads in the twin towns of Kwadaso and Asuoyeboah as well other town in the constituency.

The bad state of roads in the towns, particularly Asuoyeboah he said, was hampering refuse collection, which was posing health as well as environmental hazards.

Mr Brobbey appealed to the government to construct additional classroom blocks for schools in the area to stop the shift system, which he said, was encouraging school drop-out rate in the area.
