The Kwahu East District Assembly has disbursed a total of GH¢150,000.00 to Persons With Disability (PWD) in the District to empower them to undertake sustainable economic ventures.

This came to light during a public forum organised for PWDs by the Assembly's Disability Fund Management Committee at Abetifi for the disbursement.

The amount includes a total of GH¢20,000.00 in cheques given to beneficiaries for start-ups businesses, expansion of existing businesses and GH¢85,000.00 for the acquisition of equipment and logistics for some of the PWDS.

The money forms part of the Assembly’s share of the Common Fund and about 75 selected individuals benefited from the disbursement.

The District Chief Executive, Mr Isaac Agyapong, entreated the beneficiaries to invest the money into productive ventures to help uplift their standards of living and welfare and cautioned them against selling their equipment.

He explained that the selection of beneficiaries was transparent and strictly based on the prescribed guidelines for the project.

Mr Agyepong explained that one major requirement was that the applicant for the Fund must necessarily be a disabled person and submitted an application detailing what he or she intended to use the money for and based on the reasons stated, the committee approved the request.

Mr Agyapong said the purpose of the fund was to empower persons with disability economically to get them out of the street, especially those begging for alms and exposing themselves to traffic risks.

The beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to the Assembly for considering them for the Fund and promised to use the support in ways that would benefit them and their dependents.
