Kwahu residents fight juju

Residents of Atibie in the Kwahu South district of the Eastern region have condemned the rampant Juju scare in the town and the chief’s palace for over five years now.

They said the situation is creating fear and panic among the people which needs to be checked immediately.

Narrating their concern to the DAILY HERITAGE, a youth activist, Kwame Akoto said the whole incident started over five years ago before the demise of the queen mother of Atibie, Nana Ama Akomah II.

Before the Queen mother died, he said, a pot full of blood, carcass, cowries, pins and other items were put behind the window of the late queen mother.

In that incident, some rituals were performed, as well as prayers by some religious bodies, but she died a few months after.

Similar things were put in the houses of Adehyehene of Atibie, Nana Kofi Somuah Abredu and his mother, Leticia Ampoma Danso, which were burnt after some prayers.

It did not stop there since similar fearful items were put at the chief’s palace and some notable streets in the town almost on a monthly basis.

The recent incident was on Sunday July 13 this month when a dish with blood, a severed head of a cat, its dismembered body, cowries, pins, charcoal, sliced plantain and many other items were put on a street leading to the family house of the late queen mother.

Before the Sunday incident, some concoctions with broken eggs were scatted on the same street leading to the family house.

A member of the late queen mother’s Ayokuo family, Sampson C.K. Yeboah alleged that the town experiences such incidents whenever family members from across the country meet in the town to discuss family matters.

He, therefore, called on the elders of the town, religious and well-meaning citizens of Atibie to come together to expose those behind the shameful act.

The Akyemehene of Atibie, Nana Asirifi Bamfo II confirmed the story and warned those behind the act to put a stop to it since they would not be spared when caught.

He vowed to contact all stakeholders to enable them identify the culprit or culprits and deal with them decisively.
