Kwahus Light Up London

The week of the Kwahu University Fund Raiser in London, UK was filled with memorable moments. The renowned English League Soccer team; Liverpool FC won the European Cup in a memorable fashion which shook the entire country. The fans could not believe their luck as their favorite team was on the verge of losing to A C Milan and then came back to winning the Champions League on penalties. As someone puts it; "You get goosebumps when you see their supporters sing You'll Never Walk Alone". Then there was the anticipated parade which followed at Anfield.

Furthermore, there was a book launch at the Ghana High Commission and after that launching, a classic car, Porshe, was spotted at a busy street with the number plate bearing "OSU 668", the driver was not even a Ghanaian.

With these aforementioned events in place, the executive members of the Kwahu Towns Association had been putting their finishing touches to the upcoming historical event. The executives should be commended for all their efforts by working as a team for strategic planning every forth-night. It was not surprising that Ghanaians around the globe came in their numbers to fill the Banquet Hall at the Royal National Hotel at Russell Square, London.

This Black Tie affair was well organized and one of the best events Kwahus have organized in recent memory.

One particular moment which touched the entire audience was the keynote speech by His Excellency, Isaac Osei. He extended President Kufour's best wishes and elaborated on the President's respect for all tribes. H E. Osei praised the Presbyterians for always doing what they set their minds on. He stressed on the importance of education, the Kwahu University as also something on the government's plans and will get the necessary help as possible. He mentioned that as a result of education, people's voices are heard and thus encourage the media to be fair and responsible in their reportage.

DJ Percy, also a Radio Personality at (WBLS FM 102.8) was on the wheels of steel and provided the audience with great entertainment throughout the night. The dance floor was always packed with little room to spare.

There was one thing I discovered and that is the Kwahu people as a whole have now paved the way for their womenfolk to come to the forefront in various fields. The pattern I saw here was that, the chairperson for Kwahuman Association in UK, which serves as the umbrella organization for all Kwahu people happened to be the very able lady in the person of Ms Florence Osafo and the Chairperson of the function on that occasion also happened to be another lady by name; Mrs Anna Frempong who is a former Vice President of the Kwahuman Association in UK. Mrs Frempong demonstrated why she was chosen to chair the function by giving a handsome donation towards the fund raising. It was indeed a great day for women in general (They called the shots).

Ghanaweb encourages all Ghanaians around the world to make a contribution and help reach the goal of building the Kwahu University. This educational facility will be enjoyed by all Ghanaians.
