Nana Kwaku Bosam, a fetish priest at Opah near Amasaman in the Ga West Municipality in the Greater Accra Region, is to set up an Academy of Fetishism in the country soon.
Fetishism is the attribution of religious or mystical qualities to inanimate objects.
He told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Monday that the academy, which was expected to begin next year, would serve as a training centre for youths, especially those interested in physical and spiritual matters.
Nana Bosom said this when he took along the GNA to inspect a medical centre project he was constructing at Opah near Saipeiman at Amasaman.
He said there was the need to develop the fetish practice in the country in order to protect and preserve the tradition of the ancestors.
“The people who will be enrolled into the academy would be trained in how to prevent or stop the work of fake and “419” pastors and mallams whose only interest is to swindle innocent people who need help,” he said.
Though he did not say the exact location for the academy, Nana Bosam said the academy would offer various certificates even to the degree level.
“They would learn how to speak to herbs and how to display, to treat sicknesses and ailments, and tell only the truth to people,” Nana Bosam said.
