Felix Kwakye Ofosu, an aide to former president John Dramani Mahama, has replied a post in which his boss was described as a second-best presidential candidate to Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia.
The initial post extolling Bawumia's politics and his candidature as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer ahead of the November 4 polls was published on Facebook by lawyer Kofi Bentil of IMANI Africa.
According to Bentil, who has been an open supporter of Bawumia, the vice president has distinguished himself as a member of a government despite the considerable challenges and failures during his time in office.
On Bawumia's chances come 2024, he wrote: “When you face the NDC it will also become clear that you are a better choice. Compared to the very fine gentleman John Mahama.”
Kwakye Ofosu titled his November 2 response "KOFI BENTIL'S ESCAPE PLAN FOR BAWUMIA AND MATTERS ARISING," in which he shredded the view of the lawyer using current happenings in the country.
"Kofi says that Bawumia is a better alternative to Mahama in the 2024 elections given the opportunities both have had in government.
"This is a gratuitous untruth and is not backed by one shred of fact.No one can sustain such a claim. There will be plenty of time to discuss this subject in the run up to the 2024 electioneering campaign," his post read in part.
He added: "It bears saying in the interim however, that apart from being much, much, better than Bawumia on the basis of verifiable facts regarding performance, Mahama showed himself a superior leader when taking personal responsibility publicly for governmental shortfalls in his day and putting in the requisite shift to address them comprehensively."
