Kwamang Citizens Support Projects At Home .

Citizens of Sekyere Kwamang in the Ashanti region residing in Britain have collected more than 17 thousand pounds (nearly 300 million cedis) in London to support developmental projects at home.

Paramount among the projects is the construction of a hospital which is nearing completion. The group on two occasions has remitted thousands of pounds to support the health facility.

Through the support of the Britain based citizens, male and female wards are almost completed. This would increase the hospital bed-size from 8 to over 20.

The group over the years has also presented hospital equipment worth over 100 thousand cedis to improve facilities at the hospital.

Briefing the gathering, the Nkosuohene of the town, Nana Okofo Takyi Abeam catalogued a number of on-going projects to give the town a facelift.

He said electricity is being extended to cover other parts of the town and also to provide more street lights to illuminate the town as a way of preventing crime which mostly occurred during the night.

He said as part of the government?s programme to improve information technology in the country, Information Communication Technology Centre has been built and would be ready for use by the end of the year.

?There is a road from Kwamang leading to Pepiase in the eastern region. This is also being reconstructed and would be shortened journey time from our place to that part of the country by two hours?. Nana Okofo Takyi Abeam observed.

The Nkosuohene also mentioned a number of primary schools under construction and rehabilitation which are being funded by the government under the GETFund. Others he noted were the rehabilitation the police station and sanitary facilities.

In his address, the Counsellor for Information at the Ghana High Commission in London, Mr. Charles Wereko, who deputised for the High Commissioner, Mr. Isaac Osei, said the commission views the formation of Ghanaian unions and associations in the UK as very vital in the socio-economic development of the country.

?The Commission would therefore encourage them to assist in the development of Ghana?. He noted.
