Kwame Asare Obeng, affectionately called Kwame A Plus, has been advocating for long-lasting, free dialysis for kidney failure patients in the country, rather than a short-term scam.

According to him, many families go through significant difficulties, including selling reserved properties to take care of a family member with kidney failure.

"The number of families that have suffered, having to sell properties that were kept for so many years to take care of one person suffering from kidney failure. In Ghana, if someone has kidney failure and the country offers free dialysis, what will happen?," he expressed.

He added that the government's decision to offer free dialysis should not be a ploy to win votes, but rather a permanent policy.

"If the government has decided to offer free dialysis, it should not be a scam," he added.

A Plus referenced the free water and electricity provided to Ghanaians during the COVID era, which was canceled immediately after the 2020 general election.

"It's not about the government, it's about the policy they have initiated. We've seen this before, they provided some during COVID, free water and electricity, then increased prices immediately after the elections and took back their money, even adding a COVID levy."

He emphasised that the free dialysis policy should not be politicised because patients and families are suffering, and kidney failure does not discriminate based on political affiliation.

"Does kidney failure care which party you belong to? Kidney failure does not ask which party you belong to," he quizzed.

He mentioned that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) included free dialysis in their 2020 manifesto, which should have been implemented by the current government.

"Free dialysis was included in the NDC's 2020 manifesto. The NPP doesn't know what they have, they have love but they don't know how to handle it. Someone said they would offer free dialysis. You are in government now and you say you will do it until December, make it permanent," he pointed.

He also noted that former President Kufour initiated the disability bill, which stated that every public building should have a disability passage, benefiting him as he is currently in a wheelchair.

A Plus emphasised that no one knows when they will face calamity, so any good initiative undertaken should be done well and completed, as it will be beneficial in the future.
