Kwaw Kese’s arrest: Drug culture is huge in Ghana - Ace Ankomah

Private legal practitioner Ace Ankomah has suggested Kwaw Kese’s habit of smoking cannabis is not exclusive to him alone, saying several Ghanaians are hooked on substances than is revealed.

Speaking on STARR CHAT with Bola Ray on Wednesday, Ankomah said the musician could be handed a lighter punishment for his crime left to him alone.

“I am not one to go for very harsh punishment under those circumstances. The drug culture is huge in this country, we live in denial,” he said.

Kwaw Kese has been handed a two-week prison remand for using a narcotic drug without lawful authority. He was arrested Saturday night while smoking weed in public in Kumasi in the Ashanti region.

Commenting on the development, the founding member of pressure group OccupyGhana subtly condemned the position of the Ghana Police.

“I attended a music concert. There were about 50,000 people there, and there were policemen present and I can tell you more than half of the people were smoking weed. The police were there, and they did nothing,” Ankomah stated.

The lawyer, however, advised that Ghanaians wake up to the realities of drug use and trade in the country so as to find better ways of dealing with the situation.

He said: “The drug culture is deeper than we would like to believe.”
