"I was one of the few who backed her…now I am embarrassed because the explanation she is giving…that worsens the case…it’s a very sad development and I am so so hurt…" bemoaned the Managing Editor of the New Crusading Guide newspaper, Kweku Baako Jnr.
The astute journalist was speaking to the kidnapping of the three Takoradi girls and the various reactions or comments of the boss of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), COP Tiwaa Addo Danquah.
At a press conference in Accra on 2 April 2019, the CID boss said that the police knew the whereabouts of the missing girls and was working towards their rescue.
COP Addo-Danquah said: "We know where the girls are."
However, in a shocking turnaround, Maame Tiwaa speaking in an interview suggested that they don't know the whereabouts of the girls. According to her, her earlier comment at the press conference had been misunderstood by the public and that it was meant to give hope to the family of the kidnapped girls.
Another report indicated Maame Tiwaa's comment was to give hope to the security agencies and not the family members.
Kweku Baako speaking on Joy Newsfile programme said Maame Tiwaa's recent comments rather 'worsens the situation'.
"I find it so difficult really interrogating this issue...really disappointed...when she made that disclosure to the effect that the whereabouts of the girls have been located...I was one of the few who backed her…and I encouraged people not to attack her; now I am embarrassed because the explanation she is giving…that worsens the case; hope to the police??? how??? I don't get it; it’s a very sad development and I am so so hurt…maybe she can apologize or maybe they should find ways of redeploying her…"
Mr Baako further indicated that the bashing being thrown at the CID boss is "more like self-inflicted" and that "she will do herself a lot of good if she requests that she is redeployed from the CID to another sector of the police...the CID is high-profile. Everybody is talking about the CID and I don't want to see a situation where her career is truncated or destroyed"
