A leading member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Professor Kwesi Botchwey, has revealed he will soon make public, his intention to lead the party to win the 2020 general elections.

Denying media reports that he has picked forms to contest the chairmanship race of the party, Prof. Botchwey said he would in due course state the capacity in which he intends to marshal the party to victory in the next elections.

Signals are that the man who chaired the committee to investigate the worst defeat of the party in the 2016 elections is likely to declare to contest the flagbearership race which about eight leading members of the party including John Mahama has declared to contest.

“In the coming days, Professor Kwesi Botchwey shall publicly declare his intention and the capacity in which he will decide to lead the party for victory 2020,” a statement issued Monday by his office stated.

The statement assured the party’s supporters that Prof. Kwesi Botchey would “remain resolute to the agenda agreed on” but it fell short of details on the said agenda.

This will become his second attempt at the topmost position of the party should he go ahead to declare to contest the flagbearership race.

Prof. Botchwey made his first attempt in 2002 when he contested Prof. John Evans Atta Mills for 2004 NDC flagbearer slot.

He is Ghana’s longest-serving Finance minister having held the ministerial portfolio from 1982 to 1995.

On the reports that he has picked nomination forms to contest as chairman of the party, he said such reports were being orchestrated by ill-motivated unknown people.

“The office wants to put it on record that, Professor Kwesi Botchwey has not authorised any person to pick a form on his behalf, or has he ever considered contesting for the office of NDC National Chairman.

“We consider this act by some faceless people as desperate, wicked, and devious with the intent of portraying him as inconsistent with his decisions, and a deliberate attempt to create confusion in the mind of his teeming supporters”.

His Office has said they will cause the National Executive Committee

To investigate the matter “to bring to book the persons behind this desperate conduct to book”.
