Kyerematen would win more votes- K. Agyapong

Sandema (UE), June 7, GNA - Mr. Alan John Kyerematen is likely to win election 2012 if voted flag bearer of the party, Mr. Kwabena Agyapong former presidential spokesman of the previous NPP Administration declared at the weekend.

He said majority of Ghanaians have pledged to vote the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to victory in 2012 if the party delegates endorse Mr. Alan John Kyerematen as flag bearer.

The former Presidential Spokesperson who stated this to the party's polling station executives in the thirteen constituencies in the Upper East Region on Sunday, indicated that reliable information gathered across the ten regions showed that if Mr. Kyerematen was endorsed by the party's delegates, then the party would have a greater chance of recapturing power come 2012.

Mr. Kyerematen and his team are on a four day tour in the Region to announce his intention to contest for the flag bearership and to solicit support from delegates.

The former presidential spokesperson therefore appealed to the polling station executives to vote for Mr. Kyerematen as the flag bearer of the party, to enable the party takes back the seat in the 2012 election. He said Mr. Kyerematen had a lot of experience and had contributed significantly not only to the development of the party but for the nation as a whole.

Mr. Agyapong stated that when the party was in dire need of office accommodation, the aspiring presidential candidate for the party contributed significantly to the purchase the office accommodation in Accra, to serve as the party's headquarters.

He indicated that he was a founding member of the NPP in 1992 and played a major role in shaping the party's strategic direction both in opposition and in governance, serving on the National Executive Committee, the party's economic management team and as a member of the finance committee. He indicated that the aspiring Presidential Candidate of the Party was also the founding member of the Young Executive Forum, a powerful advocate and lobbying group within the party, which played a major role in galvanizing the professionals and business community to support the growth and development of the party as well as mobilize a new generation of party faithfuls and young leaders.

He said he was one of the few privileged to have held a membership of the National Executive Committee for over a decade.

In the year 2000, he was appointed by the Kufuor administration as its first ambassador to the United States and later as cabinet Minister responsible for Trade, Industry and Presidents' Special Initiatives and Private Sector Development.

He championed the Presidential Special Initiatives, which sought to introduce new Economic Growth Poles for Ghana, based on creating value chain linkages between raw materials and finished products, for domestic and export market.

The polling station executive in the constituencies he visited pledged their unflinching support for Mr. Kyeremanten, describing him as a visionary leader, who could lead the party to victory and bring about improvement in the Ghanaian society, if he is elected as the country's president.
