The Ministry of Information holds a press briefing to provide updates on some over 200 Ghanaians who were deported from Kuwait.

The deportees on board a Kuwait Aircraft arrived at the Kotoka International Airport from the Gulf State, Saturday.

They were taken through arrival procedures by officials of the Ghana Immigration Service and screened by health personnel. Officials say they would undergo a 14-day mandatory quarantine at designated hotels under heavy security.

Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah revealed news of their coming at a brief press conference in Accra, Friday.

“The Government of Kuwait has informed the Government of Ghana of an intention to deport some 245 Ghanaians who are currently in Kuwait illegally. The Government of Kuwait has further requested permission from the Government of Ghana to bring these persons into the Ghanaian jurisdiction…

“The Government of Ghana has subsequently granted a special permit for the admission of the said deportees to Ghana. This deportation is to be executed via a special charter flight arrangement at the cost of the Kuwaiti Government,” he said.

Today’s press briefing is also expected to update the general public about Ghana's Coronavirus case count and case management as well as the dynamics of the virus.
