LIVESTREAMING: Ministry of Information press briefing on coronavirus

Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah

The Ministry of Information is holding another edition of its Minister’s Press Briefing to bring Ghanaians up to speed with the government of Ghana’s fight against the outbreak of coronavirus in the country.

Today’s edition will focus on issues such as an overview of Ghana’s COVID-19 response program, an update on government’s preparation for PPEs and a subsidiary on electricity. Other issues to be addressed will include public co-operation with announced measures, dealing with stigmatization as well as security and prosecutions.

According to the latest update by the Ministry of Health on Ghana’s COVID-19 figures, as of this morning April 14, 2020, the nation has a total of 566 confirmed cases, 4 recoveries, and 8 deaths.

While the government of Ghana has instituted several measures to stop the spread of the virus, one of the issues it has had to contend with is public compliance.

Over the weekend Ghanaweb.com reported how some group of persons amassed at the Chokor beach in defiance of the ban on public gathering and social distancing to celebrate this year’s Easter Sunday.

The incident has caused security agencies to beef up enforcement of government’s measures and orders aimed at stopping the spread of the virus. It is expected that the issue of compliance will be extensively addressed in today’s briefing.
