Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Information Minister

The Ministry of Information is holding a press briefing this morning to provide an update to citizens on the latest mitigating measures government has taken towards the fight against the Coronavirus pandemic.

As Ghana's case count continues to witness a surge, there have been growing concerns and debate over whether the easing of the partial lockdown and the restrictions of movement by the President was a good call or wrong one.

However, some pertinent key issues to be addressed at today's press conference will provide an update on Ghana's latest case count and case management as well as an analysis of district based infections.

An update on Ghana's mortality rate will thus be provided and most importantly, government’s priorities after it held a three-day cabinet retreat over the weekend to assess the economic impact of the outbreak across all governance sectors.

At the present, Ghana's coronavirus cases count has surged to 4,700 with 494 recoveries and a death toll of 22, as of Sunday May 10, 2020.

Meanwhile, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in his ninth address extended the ban on social and public gatherings to May 31 as a measure to institute social distancing protocols to curb the spread of the virus.

With all other protocols still in place but for the lifting of the partial lockdown, the president pleaded with Ghanaians to adhere to all the directives by the state in order to curtail the spread of COVID-19.
