The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the La Dadekotopon Municipal Assembly (LADMA), Gladys Tsotso Mandede and some security personnel have assessed the extent of encroachment on the Kpeshie Lagoon by some developers.

The officials embarked on the visit after they heard that some people were building in the lagoon.

The lagoon has been filled to the brim with sand, and the structures are springing up on it.

The MCE revealed that the lagoon would burst its banks and flood the whole area.

Speaking to DAILY GUIDE, the MCE, who was saddened by the development, stated that the owners have no building permits from LADMA.

The people have, however, been given notices to stop building in the lagoon for five years now, but they wouldn’t stop building on the land.

She stated that LADMA presented a report to the Minister for Local Government last week and was awaiting response from the Ministry to know the next line of action.

The MCE said, “We are sounding warning to all that have bought land here to go back for their monies, because this place is not for sale and this water body is for the state and you can’t sell water bodies because it belongs to the state.”

Chief Superintendent Amenning, the LA District Police Commander, who was also at the site, told the media that people that had bought the land had violated the law.

In a related development, a tipper truck driver, who about to dump debris at the site, was arrested and the truck seized.
