The governing New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary candidate for the La Dadekotopon constituency, Joseph Kwashie Addo, has organised a free medical screening for residents of the constituency.

The health outreach, which took place over the weekend, was aimed at improving the overall well-being of constituents and addressing pressing health concerns in the community.

The screening was held at two locations simultaneously, the Epiphany Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Kaajaano, in the South La Estates, and the Lante George Family House.

It was conducted by a team of professionals, including medical doctors, pharmacists, nurses, and consultants from the Diplomatic Patriot Health Group. The event attracted a large turnout, with residents eager to take advantage of the free healthcare services provided.

In an interview discussing the rationale behind the exercise, the NPP First Vice Chairman of the constituency, Isaac Odoi, emphasised that the parliamentary candidate’s primary concern was the health and welfare of the people he hoped to represent in Parliament.

He noted that the recent Homowo Festival, which brought many visitors to the area, coupled with ongoing climate change effects, had heightened the risk of health issues such as typhoid and malaria.

“As a community leader and prospective representative, he believes it is his duty to ensure that the health needs of my constituents are met.

"The La General Hospital is still under construction, and the available healthcare facilities are not fully equipped to handle large numbers of patients.

"This free medical screening is our way of addressing these gaps and ensuring that people receive timely medical attention,” Mr. Odoi explained.

“Given the current circumstances, there is a heightened risk of contracting diseases such as typhoid. With the La General Hospital still under construction, this initiative aims to minimize and prevent a rise in such illnesses within the constituency,” he indicated.

He stressed that the existing healthcare centre in the constituency was not adequately equipped to handle a large influx of patients, which could lead to additional pressure on both healthcare workers and patients alike.

“Although the completion of the La General Hospital is delayed, we remain committed to fulfilling our promises to the people of La. In the meantime, this screening is crucial in preventing disease outbreaks,” he added.

Dr. Asare Boateng, a member of the medical team, expressed his satisfaction with the event’s success.

“The residents have been very engaging, which has made our work much easier. The turnout today is even greater than expected, as people typically don’t show up in such numbers for free health screenings. This is a positive sign,” Dr. Boateng stated.

The beneficiaries thanked the parliamentary candidate for the exercise and noted that in previous health screenings in the area, medicines were often prescribed for purchase at local pharmacies rather than provided on-site.

One constituent, Georgina Badu, expressed her gratitude to Mr. Kwashie Addo and his team for ensuring that the screening and medications were available to everyone, regardless of their political affiliations.

“This is a wonderful gesture that shows real care for the community. It’s not about politics—it’s about helping people stay healthy,” she said.

The screening covered a range of tests, including checks for typhoid, malaria, blood sugar levels, blood pressure, body mass index, and overall blood health.

Medications such as Lethalin, Ascorbic Vitamin C, Amoxicillin, and Benylin were distributed to those in need.
