Accra, (Greater Accra) 31 Oct. Traditional priests and quarters heads of La have disassociated themselves from activities marking the 100th anniversary of the city of Accra. In a statement in Accra today, six Wulomei and 14 Asafoatsemei said their decision followed the non-involvement of the three traditional groups in the preparation by the La Mantse, Nii Kpobi Tettey Tsuru III. They accused the La mantse of unilaterally appointing other persons as the town's representatives in the forth-coming centenary celebration of Accra Metropolitan Authority (AMA). ''The La Mantse has unilaterally appointed unqualified people to perform our customary duties contrary to La custom and tradition." The statement, which was addressed to the chief executive of AMA, Mr. Nat Nuno-Amarteifio said this has made it impossible for the Wolomei and Asafoatsemei to join the celebration to perform their function as custom demands without permission from their quarter heads. "By La custom and tradition, we can only operate and perform our traditional duties with our respective quarter heads on our side. They however pledged to protect the customs and traditions of La within the confines of the law.
