Lack of accommodation affects work at Wa East District

Funsi (UW), Dec. 25, GNA - The Lack of residential accommodation and structures to house decentralized government departments at Funsi, capital of the Wa East District, is seriously undermining productivity in the district.

Residential accommodation for the District directorate of the Ghana Health Service which was near completion has been abandoned as a result of shortage of funds to get it completed

Public servants who have been posted to the district which was created out of the Wa district in 2004, therefore spend more time in Wa the regional capital than in the district.

Apart from the accommodation problems, the district has not been connected to the national power grid.

Mr. Ameen Salifu, the District Chief Executive, while acknowledging the numerous challenges facing workers in the district, expressed concern about absenteeism among the heads of departments at a meeting in Funsi. He appealed to them to inform the district Assembly whenever they needed to perform duties outside the district so that the Assembly would have knowledge of their whereabouts.

He said though the nature of the district called for their constant movement to Wa and other parts of the region for official duties, that should not always be used as an excuse to stay out of their offices. On measures to move the district forward, the DCE urged the heads of departments to keep the Assembly informed about programmes and projects they were undertaking at their various departmental levels. Mr. Salifu said the District Assembly was prepared to help any department to carry out its programmes provided it had the financial, human resource and logistics to offer such assistance.
