There was drama in an Accra Circuit Court when a lady complainant whose boyfriend had appeared before the court for beating her up, asked for an out of court settlement.

Viraka Mcwoks, Liberian, reason was that she needed her boyfriend, Gnatoa Seri Julien, an Ivorian to be released from police custody to clear the air so that the boyfriend’s friends would stop harassing her for causing their friend’s incarceration.

However, Viraka wanted the bail conditions which will include payment by the boyfriend of her medical bills.

The Court granted him a GHC5,000.00 bail with one surety who should be a Ghanaian.

He will re-appear on June 19.

Viraka who covered her injured lips with a piece of cloth to prevent the gauze from falling off gave her account without being heard properly and the judge, as well as the interpreter, had a hectic time grabbing her account of the story.

Police Chief Inspector Francis Tassan, briefing the Court presided over by Mr Emmanuel Essandoh said, Viraka is a publisher and the accused, a labourer at the Mama Africa Restaurant, Osu in Accra.

He said, both had been friends for the past six months and Viraka had refused a marriage proposal from the accused.

On May 26, this year, at about 1210 hours at the Nationalism Park, Accra, Viraka met Gnatoa in possession of her missing bag.

She asked him to hand over the bag and he refused. A struggle ensued between the two and this infuriated Gnatoa, who punched her in the face several times.

This resulted in deep cut on her upper lips. She called for help and someone came to her rescue but Gnatoa bolted.

A report was made to the police and he was arrested later.

In his caution statement, Gnatoa denied the offence but after was arraigned.
