Minister for Lands and Natural Resources Kwaku Asomah-Cheremeh has said construction of the National Cathedral will soon start as the land for the building is ready.

Almost all the buildings on the land which used to hold the Scholarship Secretariat, the Judicial Training Institute, the Passport Office and the residences of nine judges at North Ridge, according to the minister have been cleared with the debris gradually being taken away.

“The land is ready for construction to take effect… most of the structures over there have been demolished, the debris is being carried away from that particular site so we’ll soon start the construction at that end.”

The building of the 5,000-seater cathedral was met with stiff opposition after the government revealed that the land at North Ridge had been selected for the project.

While some of the judges complained about how they were told to vacate their homes, other individuals and organizations suggested that government considers putting up the massive building on a vacant land but that did not materialize.

The specific time for commencement and expected completion of the project is yet to be made public.
